A big thank you to all that braved the cold and rain on Sunday, May 7th, at the Tam O Shanter Fun Day in Kelso.  In spite of the weather, the four-legged competitors seemed to have a great time – the two-legged ones were less thrilled about getting wet, but it is always fun to watch the dogs enjoy themselves.  We got in plenty of schooling for the novice racing and GTG dogs.  Some of the experienced big boys put on an exhibition of how it’s done.   The track was short, so they barely had room to get to top speed – it’s amazing how much ground these guys can cover.  The rat was not impressed with leaving his warm, comfy cage to sit in the rain and be pawed with wet muddy feet, but his brothers helped clean him up when he got home.

Dan Strunk was there with tongs in hand roasting his specialty hot dogs.  Melanie Lopez brought some tasty baked salmon and her Mom brought homemade soup to warm us up.  Jessie (Walt and Mary James’ daughter) helped at the sign up and raffle table. Walt and Mary donated the advertising in the area.  Molly Howard put up fliers and signs for directions.  I would have to list everyone there to thank them as volunteers – nearly all helped in someway with set up, running events, or tear down.  Our new equipment trailer made its debut.  Everyone seemed pleased with the modifications Ken Walling did to make it organized.  Once again, thank you to Dan and Leanne Strunk for bringing their lure.  Somewhere in the transition, the club’s lure didn’t make it with the rest of the equipment.  The last time I personally remember seeing it was the Fun Day at Janice Friemark’s last year.    We’re not offering a reward yet, but anonymous tips on its whereabouts can be reported to any Board Member.  (This is a joke!)

Again, THANKS to everyone that came, played, donated, and helped.  We would like to make this an annual event.  If you know of Russell enthusiasts in that area, please give their name and number to one of the Board Members.  We would really like to get some Oregonians coming to the events.  Frosty Walling
